Icq ?

I agree with this last statement. I was much convinced by the iChat MenuBar control. WONDERFUL stuff I must say.

have no idea why you find icq "full of extra junk"?!?! It's wonderful!
Ever tried the chat? This is what I call real chat! ;-)

Well, I use iChat all the time, I thought ICQ would be somthing different.

I have never tryd "The Chat", what is it?

any sign you type, the other one receives at once. Things become more "spontaneous" and I love it! And you can have several chats like this... Still I hope ICQ is going to integrate the call-option (icq-phone) like they did in their windows versions. The quality was perfect and it was working with any icq-user. I am wondering none of you guys every tried.
It's actually the common messanger for if not whole europe than at least germany. No matter if peecee or mac

IMHO ICQ sucks, point finale.

I recently used a version on Windows and the amount of extra junk and ads just floored me. It's like chatting in a dumpster full of flyers...

ICQ is nice because you can send IM to people offline.

To my knowledge the OS X version has no ads and the Windows ICQ Lite version is adless as well and has no "extra junk."

You can also do SMS with ICQ.

Exactly... the newest version of ICQ for the mac is not full of junk, the junk that is there is completely out of sight most of the time.

Anybody who says that the PC version is worthless because it's bloated has obviously not given a serious look into ICQ. the Lite version is so simplistic it's almost mind numbing.

Of course ICQ is perfect for what I use it for, others have their own opinions. I do love the offline messaging. I also do like the multi-window interface. one window per one message. I hate the chat like single window approach that the majority of other clients have used.

well, you can customize your icq! Almost reduced to your friends-list...
And one more benefit of icq: when your friend is online, you can send files as big as you want! Guess it's a direct-connection. Love it! When will yahoo add this?

I like ICQ because the offline messages DO come ;) -- yahoo has offline messages but they are flimsy sometimes I find on the amc version :)
