I'm going insane!!! Please help

Hi Guys,

Total newbie, as your about to see... New Imac and I'm new to macs alltogether.

Anyway I left to work today and my wife was using our IMAC G5 Isight to learn some graphic design, when I came back the computer was talking, it speaks everything I do, or should I say more accurately it's singing everything that's going on, on the screen, it repeats in words the keystrokes I make, and just about everything else.

I'm going NUTS..... Also there is this rectangular square that moves depending on what I have open, now it's surrounding the title input field of this form... If I click on finder the rectangular box will be around the back button on the top left corner...

Also in the apple menu on the top left hand corner, suddenly today two restart options appear, two shut down, and two log out chaimdan.....

Can anyone help me before I throw this thing outta the window? I have Norton installed but it was not active, I am testing for viruses now, is that what it could be?

My wife didn't touch any settings as far as she knows and I went into the preferences under speech and doesn't seem like anything was selected....

Your wife may have done a key combination to turn on Speech. Go to you System Preferences and check two places. The first place is in the Speech Pane and make sure all the settings are correct to not to speak everything. Next go to the System Preferences again and select the Universal Access pane and make sure VoiceOver is not turned on.
 
THANKS SO MUCH SATCOMER!!!! You saved me, at that rate I would have been in a mental asylum by the time the morning hits....

That solved all the problems.....
 
to Chaimdan: remove Norton from your mac. not only do you not need it (macs don't suffer from any virus's, it would only be a precaution so you don't forward virus's to windows users) but it is also the root of many problems on the mac platform, it is one of the only BAD pieces of software, one that causes more problems than it claims to solve. make it a priority to remove Norton completely (trash any file asociated with norton, search on spotlight if you need to).
