Imac G4 Runs Slow

Hello: I have recently upgraded my operating system to Tiger 10.4 and now things are running slow. Any suggestions on how to improve my computer's performance?

Machine Name: iMac
Machine Model: PowerMac4,2
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 700 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 384 MB SD RAM
Bus Speed: 100 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.3.5f1

Run the Activity Monitor under Applications:Utilities and sort by CPU usage and see if anything is hogging the CPU

When you first install Tiger, Spotlight will index your hard drive(s) for searching. This can take anywhere from an hour or so to half a day or more (depending on how many files and how much space you've got), and the disk activity and processor usage will be high.

I would recommend letting the computer sit with you logged in, idle, for a while -- Spotlight indexes the quickest during idle times, so letting the computer sit idle will speed up the process (make sure you don't let the computer go to sleep, either).

You'll know Spotlight is done indexing when you can click the magnifying glass icon and are able to do a Spotlight search.
