iMac will not do anything. ANYTHING

My iMac just stopped working this morning. Everything was working fine last night but when I tried to turn it on this morning it wouldn't work. I could hear the computer turning on (fan, clicks and stuff) but the screen never turned on and I never got the startup chime. This is an older, white, plastic model and the power light turned on and is steady. I have tried restarting it (by holding the power button). My dad put the installation cd in and I tried to startup when pressing the c key, when pressing the option key, and when not pressing any keys. Everything is the same except now I can't get the cd out.

So that's it. My computer will turn on, but the screen won't and it doesn't load anything of the OS.

If it has two RAM chips installed, remove one chip and leave one in. If issue persists, swap chip in machine with one you removed...

You never did specify which iMac you have. There have been quite a number of revisions to the iMac itself since the original Bondi Blue model.

I have an iMac G5 rev. B that has had it's power supply and logic board replaced twice within a span of 2 months under the then-active repair extension program for the iMac G5. It seems that all revisions of the iMac G5 were afflicted with the bad capacitor problem. If yours is an iMac G5, then it's possible that you might need to have either the logic board or the power supply (or even both) replaced. You might be able to find some boards on eBay or through some vendors listed at Low End Mac, or you could possibly replaced the faulty capacitors yourself if you have the know-how. Unfortunately, the repair extension program from Apple expired last year.

I have a late 2006 white Intel based iMac. I've been researching and it looks like this is a frequent problem (with the logic board).

Check to see if there's a repair extension program of some sort from Apple. The one for the iMac G5 covered 3 years after the date of purchase. If they have one for this particular iMac, then you might still be covered. Either way, make an appointment with your nearest Apple Store and take with you all the information you've found about it online. They may honor the repair free of charge if they see it's a recurring problem. Doesn't hurt to try. ;)
