In Finder and App>>File>>Open windows, list folders at top, files below

I have Mac OS X Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro. Is there a way, in Finder windows and in Application File>>Open windows, to have all Folder names at the top and File names listed below them (as in Windows)? Thank you.

Maybe if you open a Finder's window and in the Finder's window bar select 'Arrange' and arrange by 'Kind'. Maybe this will help you in your search to make OS X like Windows.

Thank you. That seems to work in all Finder windows. But unfortunately it does not seem to work in Applications, at least not in those I use regularly (unless I am doing something wrong), including Firefox, Google Chrome, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Pixelmator, Open Office, MS Office for Mac, MoneyWell, & Google Earth. When clicking on File>>Open in those Applications, none lists folders at the top, files below, as Finder does after clicking Arrange By>>Kind.

That's okay. I can live with it.

Thanks again.
