"Incorrect number of thread records" installing max 10.4

Hi all

I am trying to install mac os 10.4 in a Power Mac G4, Digital Audio. I currently have installed mac os 10.3.9

When I run the installation I got the error message "Incorrect number of thread records".

How can I fix that?

It sounds like you may have gotten some bad media from Apple -- I would suggest contacting the place you purchased Mac OS X 10.4 from and get a set of replacement disks.

Have you tried "slimming down" the install, and disabling certain packages? I found that installing OS X on some computers required me to disable certain packages (like language or printer packages) in order to get a working install.
 
Have you tried running Disk Utility to Repair the Disk while booted from the Install DVD? It might be the problem is with the threads of the HD you are installing onto, not the DVD.

If it is the HD and DU will NOT repair it then you will have to do a backup and reformat.
 
What kind of drive are you installing on? Is it the stock hard drive, or did you put a new one in? How is it connected to the computer -- directly to the logic board, or via some PCI ATA controller card? How is the drive jumpered (Master, Slave or Cable Select)?

Also, are you saying that the Mac OS X install completes successfully, and then when you first reboot from your hard drive then the error message appears? Or does the install never even complete?
 
I would backup your needed data and boot from the Install DVD. Choose Disk Utility and reformat then "verify" it.

Do the install and move your stuff back (if that has fixed it). I've seen the same error on several installs.
 
I am installing mac os 10.4 in the regular hard disk, the one that comes with the computer when you buy it.
 
I bootded from the mac os x 10.3 disk (Panther), and run Disk Utility , verify and fix problems, but it looks like the tool is not enough powerfull, because when it finish it says that errors were fixed, but if I run again the veryfy option, it still says that the errors are there.

I also run in songle mode the fcsk utility
