Insatiable MacMail

After using MacMail for 3 years with no problems, it has developed a propensity for eating my messages.
I used to keep old messages around sometimes for a few years. Now anything over a week old is gone for good.
I did not change a single setting. I have called Apple Care 3 times for help but they were clueless.
Any ideas on how to bring back my old friend Macmail?

First of all, what program is MacMail? Are you referring to Apple's Mail.app in your applications folder?

Secondly, what about your mail setup? What is your address? it might be a server problem, in that the server isn't keeping your messages. Is it IMAP or POP3?

Info please.

Probably .Mac mail, I guess... But that's just a guess, and support needs more (and correct) info. :)

It is the mail program that comes with the OSX software. Version 2.0.8
I pay about $100 annually for a .mac account.
The sudden change in behavior is what I'm trying to remedy. I like being able to refer to old emails without having to save them somewhere thus anticipating that I might need them down the road.

.mac mail has limited space in which you can store your emails -- you can't keep everything without copying some of the emails somewhere else, since they don't let you have unlimited space. You can check how much space is allocated to your .mac email account by logging in at the mac.com site and checking the email settings.

Chances may be that you've hit your limit, in which case you'd either have to move some of the older emails to a local folder in Mail.app, or change the settings on your .mac account to accomodate for more space.

It may also help to double- and triple-check your account settings in Mail.app's preferences to make sure they're set to your liking, i.e., never to delete any messages.

But I had less space 3 years ago and kept hundreds of emails!
They even doubled or tripled the space for free a year ago or so.
When I check my storage I am using about 32 mb of 512 mb allocated to mail. That should give me room for lots more emails.
