Installer locked

I am trying to install a program. The installer app is locked. On getting info on the app the "lock" option is checked and grayed out so i can't unlock the app. Any ideas?
 
Are you logged in as Administrator? Did you try repairing permissions?
 
Rather than use the Install app (from the utilities folder) just click twice on the item you want to install. Most stuff that I have downloaded will install with a double click or you just drag the file to your Applications folder.

Or is this something more involved?
 
What does it say under the "Ownership & Permissions" pane of the "Get Info" window (also under the "Details" tab)?

Also, how did you acquire the file? If it is a .sit or a StuffIt file, what version of StuffIt did you use to expand it?
 
Or also just: What exactly is it we're talking about? What application should be installed? Maybe that'd help, too...
 
ViaVoice. My parents bought it and never used it. So i am putting it on my computer. No CD, just he copy of the cd they made, they just daged the installer app to toast and burnt it. Permissions are all good, under my name.

1. The installer might be unlocked if you copy it to your hard drive.
2. The installer may require the original CD to work (hidden files and all that)
Sounds almost like a pirated copy, good luck!
 
If he just copied the installer to a CD, then the installer may be set to his permissions, not yours. What does it say under the "Get Info" for permissions?
