Which is the safest mounting position to prevent premature physical component failures in 3.5” hard drives using fluid bearing technology ?.

1, horizontal, with label upwards.

2, horizontal, with label downwards (as in 8600/9600/G3 tower).

3, vertical (as in MDD G4’s).

Three of my drives mounted in vertical & flipped position got damaged within 2 years :(  . Is there any connection or just coincidence ?. Has anyone else faced this ?.

Thanks in advance.

Horizontal, with label upwards maximizes hard drive life.

...but position isn't the only factor in determining hard drive life... heat is also a MAJOR factor. Keep them drives nice and cool.
