Internal HD over heating?

My internal drive has gone to the dogs, I can't see it or recover it.

But I can feel heat coming from the back of the mac after it has been on for a few hours, I download quite a films movies, albums etc - could the drive have overheated from the mac being on constantly for days and this is why the internal drive has stopped working?

Or maybe the fan has stopped working?

Cheers for any help,

How old is the drive? I shouldn't have to say backup now before it is to late. Plus what version on what Mac are you running?

Well buy a new hard drive before it is to late. Most hard drive die like old stereotypical Hollywood bad acting.

Now there is a trick to get old data off dying hard drives.

1. Get a large freezer proof bag large enough to hold the hard drive.
2. Take the hard drive out and place in a freezer proof bag and freeze it.
3. Take it out quickly and put in in a firewire/USB external and get the data off it quickly before it heats up.

This is an old trick that works about 40% of the time on dying hard drives to get data off them.

I don't have to say get an external case and a new hard drive to set this all up. your hard sounds as if it is dying slowly so move quickly.

Good luck
