Internet Connect Icon changes from "Ethernet Plug" to a Thunderbolt

The Internet Connect Icon changes from "Ethernet Plug" to a Thunderbolt in the center. What does this mean? And how do I fix it?

I believe that happens when you are connected or trying to connect via modem.

Thunderbolt means you have a connection. Empty means you don't. Nothing to fix...
