Internet Explorer Didn't Install with Fresh OS Install

I thought that I had IE 5 on my Mac before, but it's not installed now since I did a fresh reinstall of the OS over the weekend. Did I miss something? I have an IE 5 in the OS 9 Applications folder, but nothing in the OS X Applications folder. Is this some optional install on the install DVD? I did the install via the Tiger upgrade DVD. It detected that I already had Tiger on the machine, and let the install proceed, so I didn't need to install Panther first. Was IE 5 only packaged with Panther, and, so, it doesn't install as part of OS X any longer?

By the way, before anyone jumps on me about wanting IE 5, I want to say that I'm just curious about this. In fact, this seems like a good thing, I suppose, because it was a crap browser anyway. I don't use IE on my Mac or PC, but I was wondering what other apps I might be missing. Does anyone know? I know I can just drag IE from the old backup that I have of the bad install, but was more concerned about other things that might be missing, if any.

IE5 is not on my Tiger DVD and thankfully was'nt included in my install.
Also I am under the impression that Tiger comes as a complete install, not available as an upgrade, I've never seen any upgrade pricing for it.

01. 'Internet Explorer 5.x' is not installed via the 'Tiger' installation process.
Click -> 'Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for OSX', to download the 6.7 MB in size '.dmg' file.

01.'By the way, before anyone jumps on me about wanting IE 5, ...' - how else would them enjoy this clock (1)?

(1) Also viewable with 'iCab' (but slow) and 'Opera' (decent). Fails with 'Camino', 'Firefox', 'Flock', 'OmniWeb', 'Safari', and 'Shiira'.

I got this DVD because I purchased my iBook during a period of time last year where they were giving away the upgrade to Tiger for free, if you purchased your Mac with Panther. The DVD said something to the effect that "This DVD checks for previous versions of Mac OS X. It has determined that [something was here that, I think, referenced Panther and Tiger] is installed on your startup volume, and will proceed with the installation."

I guess, technically, it's not an "upgrade" DVD, but you have to have either Panther or Tiger installed on your Mac in order to have it work as an installation disk. I did a reinstall (erase and install) while Tiger was on the Mac, so it saw it and let me continue. I didn't need my Panther discs, however, so it's technically a full-install DVD.

Also fails to work in Netscape under OS 9.2. But cant the code just be changed for it to work in another browser, if I'm not mistaken?

EDIT - The clock thing

Thanks for the link to the download. I managed to get the app from my backup, but the installer is nicer. I still haven't decided if I want to install it. Probably not, because I never use it, and it's just horrible. :)

Does it work if you tell Safari to spoof IE via the Debug menu?

well ie is from microsoft, and tiger is apple, so ms's software was not going to be on the install. i don't think it installs with retail panther either.

Actually it does install with Panther, at least the Panther disk that came with my iBook includes IE5.

Unless I'm mistaken, IE has been coming with every version of the Mac OS since...what...97? ...Since the keynote speech where it was announced that it would be the default browser on the Mac. Now, the default browser changed, I assume, as soon as Safari hit the scene, but IE was still part of the install. I have it on my Panther disk that came with my iBook, and I've installed from those disks, and can confirm that it does install.

Tiger is sans IE, however. I was just wondering if I was wrong about this, or if it was some optional install with Tiger, which others have confirmed it is not.

well, could be, i'm just going off what i know from my retail os x disks. that and i kind of jumped from 10.2 to 10.4. i do know that ie does not come on the retail tiger install dvd. i'm sure this has alot to do with the fact that apple and ms's macbu work closely together, and i'm sure they let apple know when they were dropping ie long before they posted it on their website. that and ie for os x hasn't been updated since safari came out. so it was almost 2 years without an update. thats almost as bad as appleworks.
