iPartition "Display minimum sizes"

I've been trying out the demo of iPartition. I tried to 'resize' a partition of 3.9G with 1.9G used. I am only 'allowed' to make a very small change in the partition size and when I click on 'display minimum sizes' the new grey area takes up the full remaining size. Can anyone explain why I can't make a 3.9G partition smaller if it only contains 1.9G of data?

Note: I used iPartition installed on an OSX 3.6 partition on an external HD.
The partition I'm attempting to resize is a storage partition on the internal HD of my iBk.

I believe that iPartition consolidates the data and then resizes, so having data "spread" out over the drive shouldn't be a problem.

A 4GB partition with 2GB of data on it really shouldn't be any smaller... the HFS+ format that Mac OS X uses requires that there be free space available on the drive. A minimum of 15% - 20% is recommended. While you're within the acceptable limits of that, I still wouldn't suggest trying to go any smaller.
