iPhoto won`t open

Hi there.
I recently bought an MacBook Pro, and I love it. (After years humping around with my Windows machines.)
It certainly has given me a creative boost, and made my work a lot easier and much more fun.

However, I have a issue with iPhoto.

After a few weeks iPhoto suddenly got a circle with a cross through it. When I tried to open it, I got the this message:
"You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete."

I followed some instructions from another forum:

- Trashed the iPhoto.app.
- Removed any pkg file in the HD/Library/Receipts with iPhoto in the name.

Re-installed iPhoto from my iLife 11 Disk.

The problem is that it still won`t open. I get a new message that says I need to update to the newest version.

I have mobile Broadband, so it will take a couple of days to install all the updates.

Is there a way to work around this issue. Is it possible to open iPhoto, without the update??

I have OS X 10.7.2

I think it's likely that you had updated your iPhoto to the current update of iPhoto, which requires OS X 10.7.3
Now, you reinstalled from your original iLife disk, and the iPhoto database won't open on older versions of iPhoto. Run your software update, until your OS X system is up-to-date. That will also get your iPhoto software to the latest version.

If you already know that the updates will take a long time, and MAY even run you over for data usage on a mobile connection, maybe you know of some other location, like a friend's house, where you can plug in to a faster connection.

Once you get updated, then you can try rebuilding the iPhoto database, by launching iPhoto while holding Option and Command. You'll get a window with a variety of rebuild choices. Choose all of them, and continue with the rebuild. If you have a large number of photos (thousands or more), then the rebuild can take a long time.
 
Thanks for the tips, Delta. Good thing that you told me what to do when I launch the updated version of iPhoto.
I have to look out for a faster connection. I have a feeling there`s several updates ready for me.
