iPod battery test help

Is there away to do this test without having to it there listening to the ipod until it runs out of battery?
eg: like some type of timer

A software timer showing remaining battery life can be highly inaccurate. The only true test is actually playing the iPod to run down the battery. Actually listening is not necessary, but the headphones should be left plugged in for that slight additional load.

Thats what the article says but if i do that I qould have to sit for ages and what for it to die lol

You don't have to sit there, baby-sitting the iPod:
Charge the battery.
Start the iPod playing.
Come back in 4 hours. (checking for 1/2 battery life)
If it's still playing, come back in 4 more hours.
If it's still playing, you're done, unless you have a click-wheel iPod; then, come back in 4 more hours.
If it's still playing, it's good.
You could check once an hour for more precise timing.

True im sure that will work. ill have to wait until thursday to test it tho, i have a science exam tomoror and it a lil late now

I have noticed that the battery goes down 1 bar after about 15mins of play is this normal?

Let it play - one bar doesn't tell you much until you know how long the battery will play on one charge.
