iPod + stereo system

I plan to use my iPod as my sole music source at home and already have it running though my current stereo system. However, I am looking to upgrade and would like to hear from people who have an integrated music/dvd/tv set up ( I don't need radio). As I understand it, the iPod Stereo from Apple cannot accept input from both my TV and DVD, so I need to look a a third party solution, hopefully under $1000.

Any positive or negative experiences would be appreciated

Many thanks

I have one of those integrated DVD/Surround sound thingys. i'm a bit of an audiophile, and i went for a semi high-end one, within my budget constraints. it's a sony one, with ~500w split 6 ways, and i reckon it sounds top, and you can get a decent one now for roughly the price of an iPod Hifi.

mines a bit old now, but it still sounds great, plays anything on a disc except HiDef, and i have my ipod dock plugged in for ipod stuff. everything sounds better in Pro Logic II pretty much.

I have setup Yamaha 5.1 system:

It's a good system for me, because I can get surround from the DVD player via a coaxial digital signal, and from any optical-equiped Mac via the optical port. I connect my iPod to it via a 1/4 inch to RCA cord - which is the highest (quality) level that the iPod can output to (analog). If you wanted really high-quality sound, you could opt for an optical connection to a Mac or TV, and import in a lossless format..

On the video end of the system, I use a projector, and a king-sized bedsheet.
