Well, I inherited an iMac G3 (350 Mhz, 192 MB RAM, 7GB HDD), running Mac OS 9.1. I would like to upgrade it to Mac OS X. Do you think it is worthy regarding the hardware ? If yes, which version could suit ?
Well, theoretically you could upgrade RAM and go with Mac OS X 10.3, but it's rather difficult to get it nowadays, it'll take some money and you'll end up with a system that is feeling slower than OS 9.1 would. The harddrive is also a tad small for OS X, I find.
It would be a nifty "play around with OS X" machine, but I wouldn't bet on getting any real work done with it. While you may be able to scrape by day-to-day with OS X on there, I wouldn't think it'd be too pleasant given the slow speed of the machine.
It's just too old and slow. Keep it around, play with OS X on it, but I wouldn't use it as my main computer.
Thank you, by the way, I didn't get the Mac OS 9 Install CD with this second hand iMac. Is Mac OS 9 Install CD multilingual or should I seek for localized version ?
