Is Panther's Finder multithreaded ?

Less spinning wheel cursor. Better. Faster. More responsive. Nicer. Whatever. ;-)

no what it should mean is that if one window is frozen (like a samba window). Can we still use the finder nevertheless?
does it respond.

negative. the finder still has the same problems its always had when you try and preview a file that quicktime doesn't like. The whole thing hangs

bobw: I think he's talking about previewing QuickTime movies IN the Finder... on your machine, if one part of the Finder freezes (like trying to connect to a server or something) can you still open another finder window, or browse files in the finder in some other location?

On my machine, sadly, no. If one aspect of the Finder hangs, the whole Finder hangs. It happens a LOT less under Panther than it did under Jaguar, though, so we definitely ARE getting better.

I haven't had the Finder freeze up on me at all. I had one QT mov that I had to force quit, and a couple other apps, but haven't had the finder freeze yet.

bobw, I'm talking about previewing quicktime movies in the finder when its in column mode. if you come accross a file that it doesn't like (some avis, bad MPEGs, whatever) it will hang up and the finder will be dead for a minute or so until it decides to stop trying to display the movie preview.

I do agree that the finder is MUCH better than its been in the past.... we're getting there.
