Is router interfering with airport express?

I recently purchased a router (Netgear N300 wireless) in order to hook up the tv to the internet. I had been using the airport express (N) as my "router" going directly from modem to it. I have an APE b/g) remotely connected to juice the signal to the back of the house.

Now I have to have the (N) ethernet connection to the router, otherwise the connection is the same.

When I sign onto the APE network, I get a full fan showing great signal strength for about 3 seconds, then down to practically nothing. Though the Netgear router gets to this computer in the back, that drops occasionally too and I thought maybe if the APEs were dedicated to just one computer, it may be more efficient and stronger in signal strength.

When I setup the APEs, with the router, there was a pop up window that asked me if I wanted to use the APEs as a "bridge?" Should I go back and reset this up, but not choose that? Wonder if that is causing the signal drop?

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Checked. Router is on channel 1, APEs channel 11. 30%, 25% signal respectively; Frequency Netgear 2412, APEs 2462. Very weak considering.

OMG. Are you kidding? No, seriously, the guy who lives right behind me is some sort of electronics nut, and the guy across the street (who actually died Sunday), his obit said "he was a computer expert." So, who knows? Should I try going thru each channel?

BTW, in my attempts to get the APEs to bridge, or network, or be a WDS that works, they went "yellow" on me and I'll have to now start from scratch again. No matter what I did re "Participate in a WDS Network" they would not talk to each other; have in the past, but not now. I could get them to be set up individually (which doesn't help at all b/c the APE b/g needs to be a remote in order for this to help). So, I haven't checked in a couple hours, but I'm sure the APEn (main) that is attached to the router via ethernet is just sitting in the other room blinking yellow. I unplugged the APEb/g (remote) in the hallway already. Since I don't know whether to check "allow to network" or "be a client" or "wireless client ok" or whether to leave anything unchecked, whatever I attempted in the last configuration (about 20 different ones) caused them to go wonky. Sigh. I'm getting on thru the Netgear N300 right now and it it's acceptable (about 3.5 vs. 20mbs if you are in the same room with it).
