Is there a way to restart the USB subsystem?!

The reason i ask, is because...

When i sleep my cube, when it awakes my DSL (USB) modem thinks the line its connected to, is still 'live', but it really needs to reconnect to it. I have found, that manually unplugging it, means it will reconnect to my DSL service, and i may connect to my ISP. Without doing so, i am UNABLE to connect to the internet. However, i don't think the USB connector would appreciate we jacking it all day, every day ... Eventually (no doubt) giving up on me. So basically, i want ANOTHER means of being able to restart the USB side of things, so the the modem acts like its been disconnected, and reconnected.

Any Ideas people?! I'd greatly appreciate this, and it would help cure the Wooshing sound @ nites!

Thanks

One idea, which may or may not be practical for you. Replace your USB DSL modem with one that can use an ethernet connection. (perhaps your modem can use ethernet as an option?) That USB connection on some systems just is a long (minor) torture, sleep breaks it up temporarily, other little USB glitches that may or may not ever be completely fixed (seems to be more with 'your' hardware selection than anything else) Ethernet in the end is a more stable network connection.

Could you turn your modem off and on? Short of restarting, of course...

It's annoying on this computer because when someone disconnects the DSL modem (have to use MacPoET to connect), it often has a hard time reconnecting, especially after going to sleep. Usually in this case, the only solution is to restart (this is the G3 in my sig, BTW). On my iMac, when I had the 250 MB bus-powered Zip drive connected (before it broke), it would buzz every time I woke the computer up. I don't think there is any way to say, alright, computer, restart your USB bus.

sorry guys! i wish it was that simple. Our DSL is slightly different to that of yours, across the Pond! It works via PPPoA, as opposed to PPPoE, so i am forced to use a piece of hardware that supports that, which obviously isn't a typical Ethernet card! :( ...i still would love to work this out tho!! :D

If I had to guess, I'd say it was PPP over Appletalk, but I have no idea. What is it? And where are you anyway, Neyo?
