Hey all,

I have had my ibook g4 for 2 years and have a Maxtor 500gb exHD and i would like to be able to run my computer off that because there is still about 300 gb left on it. so that should allow my comp to move much faster and DL larger files, however, i have done everything i can to change my startup and cant figure it out. Does anyone know how i can get my comp to use the exHD as its main source?

USB or firewire?
If it's with a USB connection, you're out of luck...

PowerPC-based Macs typically cannot boot from USB devices -- only FireWire.

But you can keep the computer faster by keeping enough empty space on its boot drive (really min 15%) so ideally keep all the less often needed files on the external drive. Or after finishing the download, move them on the external.
And use e.g. OnyX to clean and run maintenance when needed.

Or just download directly to the external drive. Problem solved.
