iSync 1.5 (Combined Thread)

It seems that iSync has been forgotten. I know that panther will receive a new syncing engine but, How about us who need iSync to be updated now? I have been reading reports that iSync 1.5 is currently being developed but nothing really solid.

Does anyone have any information about iSync 1.5?

I really need this app for day to day operations.....

I haven't heard a single thing about iSync 1.5, nor have I heard that it's being developed, nor have I heard that it needs updating at all... and I read a lot news/rumor sites (more news than rumor).

While I do agree that it's been a while since iSync has been updated, I don't exactly understand what, exactly, you feel needs to be updated about it. Updates can be a lot of things -- new features, bug fixes, stability improvements, interface upgrades, etc.

Where did you hear this purported iSync 1.5? Please post a link.

Apple's iSync feedback page containing 1.5 as an option to select: http://www.apple.com/feedback/isync.html

Actually, the last link now only shows 1.4 as an option. However I can confirm that 1.5 _was_ part of that list when I linked to TS' story on macnews.net.tc.

Also: iSync is _always_ in need of development, since only new versions also support newer mobile phones. And there's ALWAYS newer mobile phones. I've written an article about it just yesterday: http://macintosh.fryke.com/cgi-bin/macnews2.cgi/2004/08/05#20040805_isynceditorial

No news regarding better support for Sony Ericsson K700?

Im looking at getting a new phone soon, and my old Ericsson had tons of battery life and way more features than simmilarly priced Nokias of the day (i have since vowed never to own a nokia again. can you say battery life. can you say actual features. jamming a camera into every damn phone is not a feature)

anywho. I'm assuming (hoping) that iSync 1.5 will add proper support (i understand it is crappy at best at the moment) for syncing etc with a k700.

toodles.

SE's Bluetooth enabled phones have the history of getting iSync support with every new iSync release, so I guess you'll probably be lucky. I didn't have the same experience going to SE from Nokia, so I'm currently completely back to Nokia (and won't ever buy an SE again...), but I guess that discrepance in user experiences would only be solved if APPLE made an IPHONE. ;-)

I was forced to use a Motorola V600 since thats what my company has approved. It seems that a java app out IT guys have written only works on the V600. We use this database app out on the field constanly. I was so used to my SonyEricsson T68i.......

Anyway It seems that iSync 1.4 does not support the Motorola V600. The problem with this is that I have about 500+ phone numbers on my Address Book and it would literally take me days just to add them on my V600. I also have busy schedule every other week. I use iCal to keep track of the schedules and would like the calendar to be sync'ed to my phone just like it did with my T68i.

Ive been like this for about a month now and It literaly stinks. I have to break out my iPod to look for my numbers and schedules. And while having the iPod store this information is great I would have to consider it a backup. I want the information centraly located so that I dont have to look through my briefcase and power up the iPod just to look for a phone number.

Fryke, you've always been a good source for info, but your three links are actually only good for one link. You linked to ThinkSecret, then your own site (which just referred to the ThinkSecret article), and then Apple's iSync Feedback page, which purportedly lists iSync 1.5 as a selectable version, but doesn't -- iSync 1.4 is the highest selectable version.

I'm not discrediting you or ThinkSecret, but I'll need more proof than that! ;)

Well ElDiabloConCaca; I have to back Fryke up on this one. I did see iSync 1.5 as a selectable version in their feedback form. It was taken off a few days after ThinkSecret wrote the article.

Ah, ok... well, it may seem like I'm skeptical, but rest assured -- I'm looking forward to an update as much as the next guy. I've got a Nokia phone whose model number is only 10 off from being supported (6610). If they don't include support for it in 1.5, then I'm personally going over to Steve's house to have a chat with him... ;)

Is the 6610 the US version of the 6600? If so, you could try and 'hack' iSync into believing that it's a supported phone. You'll find instructions all over the web that did the same for other (previously unsupported) phones. It's really a matter of changing a plist-file. That is, if the 6610 really _is_ the US version of the 6600, which is supported by iSync directly.

I have no idea -- I know that my local T-Mobile store carries both the 6600 and the 6610, and I liked the 6610 better. I'll try the plist thing, but I think it may be time to hop on Motorola's bandwagon since they've chosen to integrate with Apple!

Still Crap support for the SE P900!
It will sync if it feels like it. but 4 times out if 10 it just cant be bothered. There are hacks about to get round this, so WHY have Apple chosen to ignore them?
