I noticed in my friend's iTunes music folder several files named (something like) "damaged library...". None of her music was showing up so I removed the existing iTunes install (version 6.5 I think) and then installed the latest version.
She doesn't have an iPod and is solely dealing with ripped CDs in her library. I dragged her music files in to iTunes and it listed all of them. This seemed to stay intact until I put iTunes on the Dock, ran it, and then only a few of her tunes displayed along with a message about a damaged library.
I went back to her music folder and deleted everything but the music folder (i.e., xml, "damaged library" files, etc.). I redragged the music in to iTunes and once again it stayed put through several iterations of run, close. Since then she's reported that the music is missing again and the damaged library thing is happening.
Besides changing my phone number what would you Mac experts suggest?
