iTunes

I'm having problems accessing my music in iTunes.

I've been into preferences and pointed to the folder where the music is stored, (it's stored on a separate hard drive) but without success.

I've copied the songs back to the original folder, but that doesn't work.

Been on other forums and on the net but no progress.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Stephen

What OS X are you running and on what Mac? Have you checked the iTunes Preferences and click on the Advance tab? There do a reset then point iTunes to your Library location there.

I'm running 10.5. Have done the preferences bit and pointed to the directory where the music is located. Still no luck.

Do you think it's associated with the file which contains the database of the music files.

Well try this:

1. Quit iTunes
2. Go to the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Music/iTunes/ and in there should see several iTunes files and also the music folder. Well these files are the reference files for the iTunes Music for iTunes to find, name the music & all the stars & song individual song info beside the straight name.
3. When you moved the music did you move all this files along with the iTunes Music folder? Please answer this question.
4. Before you move the music back up ALL the files in /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Music/iTunes/ This is VERY important.
5. Move all the files you moved back to /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Music/iTunes/
6. Open iTunes and make sure iTunes can find that folder and it does play and everything.
7. Attach the external you want to move.
8. DO NOT MOVE ANYTHING from that folder MANUALLY!!!!!!!!! Copy the folder of /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Music/iTunes/ to the location.
8. Launch itunes and the open iTunes Preferences, Advance tab and point it to the copy on the external.
9. See if iTunes grabs that music and information that you copied.
