JBL Creature vs HK SoundSticks

I've outgrown my Apple Pro speakers--well, I outgrew them when I bought my iMac TFT but I couldn't justify the expense of new speakers.

Here's my side-by-side comparison, can anyone tell me why I should pay 100$ more for the HK SoundSticks + iSub?? (the word 'digital' doesn't make the slightest difference).

JBL Creature | HK SoundSticks

HK Sound Sticks
Price: 299$
Interface: USB All-Digital
Frequency Response: 200Hz - 15kHz
Power: Self-powered
Look:

JBL Creature
Price: 199$
Interface: Analogue
Frequency Response: 50Hz - 20kHz
Power: Self powered
Look:

JBL Creature Speakers:
  • Cover a frequency range 5,150kHz wider (150Hz lower, 5kHz higher)
  • Will work with any analogue input (like my iPod).
  • Cost 100$ less!

I have both...the Soundsticks are MUCH better looking, but the Creatures are much louder, and have marginally better sound. To me, the soundsticks are worth it. Why not just buy them online for $120 or so?

Online where? From the Apple Store they're 299$ (Canadian).

I'm much more interested in better sound.

Since you have both, do you find having (essentially) 3 volume controls combersome: OS X master volume, iTunes volume, speaker volume?

The Creatures are on my brother's HP. I have Soundsticks on my iMac LCD. They don't have a volume control, just a bass control. I leave the volume on my system to half (when I'm online and MIDI music comes on, I dont want to deafen myself) and only change my itunes volume. Look @ www.half.com or buy.com for soundsticks...I've seen them new for as low as $120. The sound quality is great for the money.

Aha thank you for catching that, I misread the text. In fact, the 200Hz to 15kHz is what they claim 'average computer speakers' to be, while they don't list their own

Thanks mkwan.
