kernel panics and mouse freeze (g5)

Hi all,

I have had my G5 powermac for almost a year now and have had no problem until the past few days when it has had about one or two kernel panics per day and my mouse freezes up about once a day. When the mouse freezes the keyboard works fine, but the mouse does nothing.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? Is it possible it could be a software thing? I am repairing permissions right now, but other than that, I am lost!

Did you recently add any new RAM? Have you ever added new RAM to the machine? If so, try taking out any 3rd-party modules and run the system with only the Apple-supplied RAM and see if things clear up...

jhogeterp,
Did you solve the problem or does the mouse still freeze on you?

Sorry for the delay in response.

Yes, the mouse still freezes. It has the original (apple factory) memory in it. I tried changing usb ports, but that didn't work either.

I have been pushing the machine pretty hard lately, and that could be the reason. Also we just launched a new .NET (not my choice :) ) cms that I have had to use. Maybe it could be something with .net. Not quite sure.

it wierd though because all other functions work (ie keyboard, programs), I jsut can't use the mouse.

any other thoughts?

Check the mouse on a different computer. If you experience trouble, then it is the mouse that needs replacing.

Do you have the mouse connected to the keyboard? It should be.
Do you have any equipment attached like a scanner? Unplug those and see if it still happens.
Do you have a usb hub? Does it have it's own AC power?
