Some how I managed to mess up my MacBook and now every time I start I get the folder with a ? in it. If I attempt to boot from a disc I get the following after it ejects the disc:

This is covered by the multilanguaged 'you must shutdown your computer' message.

I have a very reent time machine backup of my full system on an external and I was able to access the harddrive (I removed it and used my netbook which is running vista and OS X 10.5.7) to get the remaining files I added since the back up so reformatting the HD isn't an issue at this point.

Oddly, I can get the iDeneb.iso I burnt to a DVD to load OS X on my netbook to load just fine. There is an option there to restore from a backup however when I attempt to do so I get the spinning little multicolored wheel...

I know this is a lot, but I am a student in Poland and the closest Genius Bar I trust is in New York so any help would be great.

Thanks in advance

Is it the Install/Restore DVD that originally shipped with that MacBook? Or is it an Install/Restore DVD that was obtained after the computer, or possibly shipped with a different model of Mac?

The Install/Restore DVDs are system-specific, and will not boot a different model of Macintosh than what they originally shipped with.

The reason I ask is that this error is typically the error one receives when trying to boot a Macintosh with a system-specific Install/Restore DVD that came from a different model of Mac:

Code:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0042F4E9): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1228.0.2/iokit/Kernal/IOPlatformExpert.ccp: 1378

You also cannot boot a Mac computer with a version of OS X that is older than what originally shipped with the computer -- for example, a MacBook that shipped with Leopard 10.5.4 will not be able to be booted with a retail version of OS X that is older than 10.5.4 (e.g., 10.5.3, 10.5.2, etc.).

It is the actuall disc that came with my MacBook. It's only about a year old. I made a disc image of the dvds that came with it incase it got scratched or lost which I am burning right now to a DVD. I will attempt to load it and post the results.

Thanks for your help on this, I really appreciate it.
