I am a recent MS convert and am trying to get used to my new iMac. The hardest transition, funny enough, seems to be the keyboard. After many many years of using the MS shortcuts and kb layout, I'm finding the mac very difficult to adjust to.
So, I did what any new convert would do... I tried to find a way to remap some of the keys I use on a daily basis. However, I have been blocked at almost every turn. So here are my top 3 questions:
1) The alt & command keys are swapped on the mac keyboard compared to a win keyboard. After figuring this out (because I use my old KB for gaming) I found that I could easily switch these keys in the control panel, to make my win keyboard behave exactly how the mac one would. But now the problem... my "alt" key is in a very uncomfortable position for hitting while playing games. (right between the command and ctrl... very awkward). Is there a way to map these keys for ONE app only?
2) I found the KeyBindings solution for fixing my home/end keys which was getting on my nerves while text editing (I know, I know... command arrow - but it will take me a while to get used to that). The keybinding solution works great, but not everywhere. For instance, not in the URL bar of safari. Any rhyme, reason, or fix for this odd behaviour in just particular locations? (oddly, it works inside the browser window in safari, just not the url bar at the top).
3) Keybindings works well and all for commands that seem to be available such as "moveToEndOfLine", but what if I wanted to map something more familiar for me, such as "Alt-E" opening up Finder. Is there a way to do something like this?
