Keychain and login passwords different? :(

I changed my login password then did a restore from an old build.

So now I have a different password to the keychain one.

This isn't really a problem as I know both, but I'd prefer to change the keychain password to match the account password.

Any ideas?

go to keychain access in your utilities folder. from the edit menu, choose - change password for keychain ''yourname''

I have a friend who could not remember his admin password so we created a new one with the install CD. But now the keychain dialog box pops up and wants a password. The new password doesn't work and we don't know the 'old' password so we can't change it. Solution anyone? The dialog box is extremely annoying but can usually be closed by hitting cancel twice.

Very easy fix for this one.
Change your password again, using the normal process in your Accounts pref pane. You can 'change' your password to your existing password. The important thing is the password change process. When the change is complete, you'll see a window pop up, telling you that your Keychain password has been reset to the same as your administrator password, and that's it!

I got excited about this one until I got the window pop up that said the Keychain password would be changed to your new account password. But it also says, "If your keychain is locked, you will be asked for your current keychain password before your password can be changed." Therein lies the problem. We don't know the current (aka 'old' password') which is the original problem. Ouch. :-)

Yes, that's true. But if the change password process resets that keychain password and you were then NOT asked immediately for the keychain password, then the reset is complete. Don't be concerned unless the keychain then asks for the password.
If you can't get around this, then you can simply delete the keychain file, and a new keychain will then be started.
