Hello,
I’m having a problem with a 2month old LaCie 750GB 3.5" Hard Disk.
It has recently stopped appearing on the desk top of my power book g4 (OSX 10.4)

In Disk Utility - cannot mount or repair the drive & get this:
Verify and Repair disk “disk2s6”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Invalid B-tree node size
Volume check failed.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

In System Profiler it also see it:

LaCie Hard Drive USB:
Capacity: 698.64 GB
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: Yes
BSD Name: disk3
Version: 0.01
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: LaCie
OS9 Drivers: Yes
Product ID: 0x1018
Serial Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported
Vendor ID: xxxxx

Does someone know how can I fix this & not lose all the data that's on it? Or retrieve the data?

Many thanks, 2KR8

Could just possibly be the directory structure of the drive is corrupt from sudden power downs or not always being ejected properly. Diskwarrior is going to be your best bet at this point.

Might also want to give the power supply a once-over to ensure it's working properly. LaCie is notorious for power supplies that crap out after X amount of months, which can cause the symptoms you describe (drive doesn't mount, etc.).

ho djackmac & ElDiablo,
thanks for the tips.
ElDiablo - what do you mean exactly by 'give the power supply a once-over '? - the blue light flashes, etc...

thanks, 2KR8

What I mean is ensure that the power supply is fully functional. If you have electronic testing equipment (volt-o-meters and what-have-you), be sure it's outputting the proper voltage and amperage.

LaCie power supplies are notorious for going bad and requiring replacements. A faulty power supply could be one of a few causes of what you're experiencing.

Confirmed. I found this thread after I could not get three of my old hard drives to mount. (the blue light was on) Changed power supply and all three are fine. They mounted no problem.
