I have 2 Lacie External Drives, 1 is firwire only, the other has firewire 800 400 & USB 2 This problem occured with both drives.

I was working with the firewire and one day it would not mount. I tried different firewire cables with my desktop and ibook. But could not get it to mount, I tried USB and it works. Do I need reset something? I already fixed permissions. Anyone have ANY ideas?

Try booting into open-firmware (hold down command-option-p-r while booting) and then type the following two commands:

reset-nvram
reset-all

And press Enter after each. After the second command, your system should automatically reboot. Check to see if the firewire ports work again.

No, NVRAM ("Non-volatile RAM") and PRAM ("Parameter RAM") are two completely different, distinct things.

Dead firewire ports have been cured more than once by resetting the NVRAM as described above.
