Leopard Upgrade Question...

The Lone Deranger
When Mac OS X 10.5 is released, and I upgrade, will I have to reinstall all of my apps and adjust all of my setting and import all of my iTunes songs, and set everything up again?
OR!
Does it just use my existing settings so there are no "re-importing of songs, etc"

Thanks,

More than likely, if trends continue like they have with OS X upgrades in the past, there will be an "Upgrade" option at install time that will upgrade your system to 10.5 and leave all your existing settings/music/applications/users intact.

I always recommend a clean install over an upgrade install, though. They tend to turn out more stable that way.

Generally, I prefer to do the following:

1.) Always keep a recent backup of your home folder, your Applications folder and anything installed outside these places that you know needs to be backed up.

2.) Upgrade to the new version of OS X. If all goes well, simply continue to use it. If not...

3.) Clean install the new version of OS X and bring back your files and settings and applications from the backup.

Excuse me--I'm a newbie just witched to Mac from PC. I am planning to buy a new MacBook and wondered what will be involved in upgrading from Tiger to Leopard.

Thanks!

buy leopard from apple. take dvd and put into macbook. run the installer which will restart macbook and boot into the cd. there you will choose one of three options (Upgrade, Clean Install or Archive and install) and install. then you restart and it's leopard. yum.
