Libhputlis.dylib Printing crash

Dear Mac experts,

I have had an unusual problem, even more unusual seeing as it has occured between two separate computers. I will run through what happens below;

I want to print a photo onto photopaper (this using my Dad's Imac, running MAC OS X 10.5.8, using a HP Photosmart C8180), so I open the file (JPEG) up through preview and go to make the changes to the default print options. If I go to change the basic preset to 'Print onto Photo paper' preview crashes, and then the crash window says 'It may be a problem with the Libhputlis.dylib file'. I tried again bypassing that preset and the same thing happened, when I went to change the paper type in the tab below. I presumed something was going on with my Dad's mac so I went to get my laptop. Exactly the same thing has happened. I am running a Macbook Pro also OS X 10.5.8.

I am at a loss as to what it could be, other than some kind of virus which we have somehow both got, I thought perhaps it could be the printer but that seems a little far fetched. I find HP quite tiresome, so perhaps it is that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there El Diablo-

I've just tried installing new drivers, and it is persisting. . Any other idea's? It's crashing ever time I go to to change the paper tray, and it is not a software issue, it happens in Photoshop and Preview. .

Many thanks-

Joseph

Hi El Diablo-

Since I last posted I have worked out the problem, and just in case it should ever happen to anyone else here was the solution. . . The JPEG I was trying to print was called '+++' and it affected the options of the printer for some reason. I renamed it and it worked fine. I presume this is something to do with coding. . anyway, all is now well and I have learnt a lesson which will stay with me.

Many thanks for your help though, until another problem arises. . .

Ah, yes, I deal with that kind of thing daily here at work -- I still can't break people of the habit of including single quotes in filenames (like "Arby's")... a former programmer here was not as careful as others, and single quotes cause his programs to catastrophically fail. Still dealing with that to this day.

Glad to hear it's sorted!
