... I want my Powerbook G4 and my fiance's Dell Inspiron to talk to each other.. lol.

Hey guys and gals,
I'm fairly new to OS X, and a complete virgin when it comes to networking. I may be overcomplicating things a bit, but all I want to do is file share between my Powerbook, and her Dull.. er.. Dell. ;-) (I'm no genius, but I have grown to dislike Windows already)

The specifics:
I have a Powerbook 17" G4, loaded with all the relavent goodies; 802.11G, ethernet port, etc. etc.

She has a Dell Inspiron 610 M notebook, also with wireless capabilities on board.

I also have an Airport Extreme base station, which until I moved, was used for some pretty intense "wireless dial-up" action... (awesome experience btw.. lol)

All I really want to do here is file share; my question is how. Can I do this with just the laptops? Or do I have to set up a network using the Airport Extreme? What if I'm also using the Airport extreme for my DSL connectivity?

Why am I so confused? What is the meaning of life... anyway? I'm sure this topic has surfaced in the past, but I'm not having any luck finding it; and quite honestly, I'm supposed to be working right now. My lazy bone is a big one.

Thanks for any info y'all, (<<kentuckian for "you guys")

I am not sure what version of XP she is running but in the Macintosh OS X all you have to do is open System Preferences->Sharing and turn on windows file sharing. This will share you Public folder to the Windows machine. She will then have to have an account on your mac to log in with.

Now here is a link: Mac OS X to Windows XP. This link is for Panther but is similar for Tiger.
