location detection is off but google finds me

Hi
I was surprised to find that google was showing me 'nearest to you' search results, despite location detection being unchecked in safari.
As with my other post today (never accept cookies doesn't seem to have much if any effect), it's not a big problem - but the two issues raise questions in my mind about Safari security.
Any thoughts/ideas appreciated.
Cheers

The problem is that there is no way to use Google products without giving your location. There are a lot of Addons to Firefox to remove Google Ads and tracking--which, according to Google is a "Bozo-No-No!"--but blocking their tracking is not possible at this time. You would have to get a proxy--pretend to be posting from Liechtenstein---and set your home on Google/Gmail to Liechtenstein.

No one likes it. Google primarily does that to try to feed ads to you. THOSE you can block, however :)
