Login issues

I have a new 15 inch. macbook pro w/ osx 10.4 . Everytime I log in I have to sign in - I checked Auto-login under pref/users/options... why? & what else can I do?
I also have a 17inch. (the same) that dosent have this problem - I compared the two & the settings are the Same??!!??

Perpexed!?!
 
A) Have you went into Login Options under pref/users/ and made the change, exited out, then went back in to double-check it was still there?

B) Does it do it only when you try setting the one account? Try creating a temp account, and setting autologin to the temp account. Does it work?

C) Have you tried repairing permissions yet?
 
Toggling Auto-login usually does the trick.
Turn Auto-login OFF, reboot, Turn Auto-login back ON, then reboot again. This time, you should get an Auto-login.

And as Yesurbius pointed out, try repairing permissions as a last step.
 
You don't want to change permissions, you want to repair permissions. Open your Disk Utility (in the Applications/Utilities folder) Click on your drive to select it, and click on the Repair Permissions button.
