lost the Mac HD icon in Systems Preferences/ startup disk. Only Network Startup icon appears. This is after using Boot Camp to partition and install Window XP pro sp2, then deleting the partition because of problems. I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.7 Intel Core Duo, 2 GHz, 2GB memory, 667 MHz.

Tried reinstalling Windows with Boot Camp. Message I get is: The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.

I backed with Time Machine before the first attempt at installing Windows. But not having experience in formatting or restoring info to disk, I'm not confident in going this route. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Boot Camp ( a partitioning program) sometimes has problem when the hard disk has small errors. Well lets fix those errors.

1. Boot with your Install Disk.
2. Don't fully install and interrupt the install process to get a limited Finder menu.
3. In the Finder menu use the drop downs to find "Disk Utility" and launch that.
4. Use "Disk Utility" to try to fix that disk.
5. Reboot and hold down the "option" key while booting to select your OS X partition.

Now on the Windows partition use the Windows disk to fix that partition.
