Mac 10.3.9 crashing many applications - help!

Hi all,
To this point I have gone as far as zeroing the drive and reinstalling from the CD, then running updates (currently running 10.3.9). I would have thought zeroing the drive would restore the machine to like-new condition, but after a few days, several applications (including Safari, iTunes, and Software Update) constantly crash or stall with the wheel spinning until I force quit. I have no idea what to do from here. I have been using Apple/macs since 1984 and this is driving me daffy!

Anyone have any ideas as to what I should try?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. It is a 15" PowerBook G4, 1.33Ghz, 512 RAM, OS 10.3.9. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!

Zeroing the drive is a good start, but if you are re-installing a duff programme you'll only end up back where you started.

Have you purchased any new progammmes lately?

The only items I put back from the backup CD's I created were academic files (mostly word, ppt, excel, docs, and images). I had a few small third party apps like Cache Out X, RBrowser, Audacity that I re-installed from the source, but they were on the machine when it started acting goofy in the first place. Other than Firefox and OfficeMac, I have no other large apps installed.

Do you have any additional fonts installed? Check both /Library/Fonts & home/Libary/Fonts. Try removing (place in another folder) any fonts in these folders and see if your situation improves.

Also, have you tried running the hardware test that came with your computer? Perhaps you have some bad RAM.
