Mac-based multi-doc search tools?

Hello to all,

Is there any sort of Mac-based, multi-doc search tool available that anyone know of?

Basically, I'm looking for something that allows you to load (or point to) any number of PDFs or text docs and then search all these at once for given inputs (words, sentence fragments, etc.) rather than having to open and search through them individually.

Currently, I'm having to open individual PDFs or text files and search them one by one for things which is tedious and time consuming.

Does anyone know if such a tool exists?

Thanks.

I loves me some Yojimbo for this. It's a document organizer program whereby your documents are actually stored within Yojimbo, but it allows tagging and text searching of any and all documents (which can be PDFs, web archives, text documents, images, workd processing docs, etc.) and is quite fast.

It also syncs across multiple computers using MobileMe.

Thanks, Diablo!

I knew if anyone had a good suggestion, it would be you. :)

Sounds like a really good product. I'll give the trial version a going through and see if it does what I need.

Cheers!

There are alternatives (that I haven't used personally, with the exception of Evernote) that may have more features that are pertinent to your use... I like Yojimbo due to its simplicity and stability (Bare Bones typically makes really rock-solid apps -- they also make BBEdit and TextWrangler), but options are always good:

Some offer iPhone integration if needed, others don't... there's a 3rd-party that makes accessing the Yojimbo database over the internet quite easy (for those with web server and port forwarding experience):

Thanks, Diablo! I'll have a look at those, too.

Basically, I've got a few different language glossaries and e-dictionaries in text and PDF format that I'd love to be able to search for terms without having to open each one in turn and cmd + f them.

Really, just as simple as that. :)

I'm hoping for a light-weight, open source solution, but am open to any suggestions as having to go through each doc is not just tedious, it's very time consuming.

Thanks!
