Mac extended keyboard spacebar

I have just been to pc world to get a new keyboard for my mac mini i got a wired one with numeric pad, and i have noticed that the spacebar is noisy as hell, all the other keys are nice and quite, i went back and swaped it thinking it was a fault but its the same on all of them, strangely it only seems to be the extended version and only the spacebar.

has anyone ever noticed this?

I've got one, had it for over a year but I never noticed any noise from the spacebar.

What kind of noise, a squeak or what?

Hi,

not so much as a squeek its just not like the other keys, it feels sort or tacky and sounds like a typewriter, you know like the old windows keyboards do with the giant chunky spacebars and keys? sort of clunk clunk

the keys on this board all feel nice responsive and silent like it should be, but the spacebar sounds hollow and cheap to touch.

i have also been told from someone on the mac forum that they updated the keyboard sometime in 2009 and lots of people have been having the extra loud spacebar...strange.

Typically, the spacebar (due to its length) has two actuators, not one, like other keys. If not two actuators, then two spring-loaded clips -- one on each side of the spacebar.

Could this be what you're hearing?

hi i have taken a quick recording of it just to show you what i mean, simply because i will never be able to describe it to you, you can hear the difference between the normall keys and the spacebar!

at the end of the day i am just going to have to live with the noisy spacebar, i have exchanged it once and this one is the same so i guess its just the way.
