Mac Mail Signatures Problems ...

Several days ago, my signatures in Mail are no longer working. In the pull-down menu, it says "none"

I've tried highlighting my signature (still in the Preferences), and placing the sigs in each mail account. Then when I close Preferences, the sigs are available.

But when I close Mail, then reopen, the sigs are no longer available in the pull-down menu, and I have to reset all the sigs again (everytime I open Mail).

I've mever seen this happen before ... What is going on?

I'm running OS X 10.4.11, Mail 2.1.3

The easiest way i found is to first right down you ISP mail server settings then go to the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and move the file com.apple.mail.plist to the Trash (it will not erase saved email). When you relaunch Mail put you ISP email server settings back into Mail and this should reset Mail.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the tip!!! I will give that a try right now ...

Wow ... !!! Satcomer ... Thanks for the tip ... !!! Took awhile, but Mail signatures are now working. However, now two of my mail accounts (one DreamHost, and one Clearwire) are not working. Before, only one (my third Clearwire account) was not working, which several Clearwire techs cannot figure out how to fix.

I can't afford to lose all the messages associated with my Clearewire account, so I'm not sure what to do at this point ....

Did you read mu comment? Did you right down the ISP server settings before deleting the Preference file?

I fixed my DreamHost account. I typed in the e-mail address wrong!!! But ... the Clearwire account that is not working has everything typed in correctly ... I've contacted several tech support people. Was on the phone with the first one for several hours!!! The second tech also was no able to figure out what is wrong. They told me to use a different e-mail application (Thunderbid).

Strange that my third Clearwire e-mail account (the one that is still not working) stopped downloading mail to Mac Mail September 6th, 2008. The messages are still going through to the Clearwire webmail though .... But why are those message not making it to MacMail???

Well according to to Clearwire Support page the Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com (requires login info: username@clearwire.net) and the outgoing (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com (this require the same username@clearwire.net). Also the email ports are way different than standard ports. They are IMAP: 993 & SMTP: 465. The SMTP needs SSL.

Now when after you settings in did you use Mail's menu item "Window", then in the pull-down "Connection Doctor" to see if the settings work?

Clearwire Tech Support told me to set up my Clearwire accounts in Mail as POP accounts. That is what I did, and my first two Clearwire accounts are working just fine in Mail. The third Clearwire e-mail account is still not working in Mail. Works just fine in webmail though ... strange ...

All of my DreamHost e-mail accounts (six of them) work just fine in Mail. I had similar issues with my PacBell e-mail accounts in Mail ... Wonder if there is a compatibility issue with Mail and Clearwire ... ???

I never even knew about the Connection Doctor ... !!! Thanks for that tip! I checked out the Connection Doctor, and all of my accounts (6 DreamHost, and 3 Clearwire) seem to be ok.

Connection Doctor Details: "Connection and login to serve succeeded."

So why is my third Clearwire account still not downloading mail into Mail?

Well download and test with another email application like Thunderbird and see if it gets the Clearwire email. This way you see if it is Mail or clearwire having the problem.

Plus maybe your router/firewall or ISP is blocking port access to the email server.

I don't have a firewall. And I haven't changed the settings for my router in over one year .... Could the router still be causing problems? My neighbor is connecting to my router via her wireless card, and she has no trouble getting online at all.

Our roommate's son connects his PSP online via our router also, and has no trouble. Another friend who brings his laptop over also has no problems connects through our router.

Maybe I could experiment with different port numbers? Do you know which port numbers that I could try?

Yes Firewall. In OS 10.5.x open System Preferences->Firewall, then Firewall tab. What is the Firewall set to?

Plus did you try Thunderbird yet to see if it can get the email? i ask because we you can test to see if it is the program or the system.

My system is 10.4.11 .... I just finished setting up Thunderbird. Still waiting for my e-mail to download ....

Thunderbird can't download mail .... server keeps timing out. I've tried downloading my mail (from the third Clearwire account that won't download to Mac Mail) three times, but the server keeps timing out, so I can't download the mail ...

I've tried playing around with the settings in Thunderbird ... SSL off, still can't download mail ... SSL on ... still can't download mail. Tried Authentication on and then off ... still can't download mail.

My settings for Incoming mail:

pop.gmail.com

Outgoing mail:

smtp.gmail.com
