Mac Not Connecting To Internet.

Hello,

Please bare with me, not very Apple or IT educated but can find my way around. I've just bought a new Mac desktop and ran an OS X Yosemite update. Since then I cannot connect to my wifi internet. All other devices are fine and I have tried adding and removing my connection from advice on here but it says I'm offline. I have tried reconnecting. No use. Should I try and uninstall or Declan as I think it's called? Hope you can help as I have a rapidly approaching university deadline and can't get on with it.

Thanks

Mx

Since you "upgraded" most of your older applications might be incompatible with the newer version of OS X. So download the free application EtreCheck and run it. It will print out a report that will show you what will not load and incompatible files and other services. If you highlight so ething it will show you a path to delete those bad files. Then after all that deleteing reboot your Mac to unload those bad files. This should help.

You can try deleting the old preference files that guide the networking part of the system.
Go to the GO menu at the top of your screen and select Home.
Now find the Library folder and open it, then locate the Preferences folder and open it.
You want to find and delete the following files - if you have them.
com.apple.internetconfig.plist
com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist.lockfile
com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist

Restart the computer, empty the trash, then go to System Preferences and enter your WiFi information.

In the second step, the Library folder is normally invisible, so click on the GO menu again, then press and hold the Option key. You will see a "Library" item appear. That's the Library folder that Cheryl mentioned, so open that, then follow the rest of the steps.

I have problem too. I can't connect to wifi network after upgrade to OS X Yosemite.
I tried restart time capsule, restart MacBook, remove wifi network from preferred networks - nothing changes :-/

To make sure the problem isn’t restricted to just one website, try visiting another—preferably one that’s highly reliable, such as google.com. Then use Network Diagnostics button to check on the computer condition. To do this, choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Network. Click Assist me, and then click Diagnostics. If your Mac connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi, check the Wi-Fi menu (at the top right of your screen) to make sure you’re connected to the network you intend to be. Macs have been known to hop onto less-desirable networks at inconvenient times.
