When I boot into Mac os 9.22 I open the Mac OS X 10.4 install CD, and I get the following error. An Error occurred. "Startup Disk was unable to select the install CD as the startup disk. (-2)" I dont know what to do I am new with Mac I have did the Firmware update that did nothing. Help! Please! Thanks in advanced. :(

no problem. If you are trying to install Tiger, then simply restart the computer with the Tiger DVD in and hold down the C key. This will force the computer to boot to the DVD.

Where did you get your copy of OS X 10.4 ?
If you have one designed to install on an Intel Mac, then you can't install on a system that can boot to 9.2.2 - those would be mutually exclusive.

you have to hold down the C key immediately when u restart and keep on holding it down. And if that doesnt work then restart and immediately hold down the Option key and the startup manager will come up. It should let you choose to start up to the CD

When I press C down, I get a blue screen with a mouse then it turns back to Mac OS 9.2 starting up.

It sounds very much like a dead cd-player to me. Try to start the 9.2 installation without the extensions and if that works, try a different cd to check the player. You could also check the cd you have on another system to check that it is oke to boot from.

Good Luck, Kees

The CD player is fine, it works great with other things, I also selected Startup Disk from control panels and it has the CD lightened out and not able to pick from it. I dont know! Its frustrating not a good way to start with Apple.

What colour is the Tiger installer disk, and what version is listed on the label (will be either 10.4, 10.4.3 or 10.4.6)?
