HEY I WANT TO BUY MULTI PURPOSE PRINTER SCANNER. I WANNA BE ABLE TO SCAN AND PRINT IN 1 MACHINE CAUSE I HAVE LITTLE SPACE. I HAVE CHECK BESTBUY BUT NOTHING GOOD FOR APPLE THE PRICE CAN BE ABOUT 300.00. I HOPE YOU CAN ALL FIND A GOOD ONE THANKS IN ADVANCE

find that 'caps lock' button for me, and push it so the light turns off. after that, head over to here and HP has a cople multi-feature options for ya. They don't have driver downloads for X, but they do for 8/9. So you might be in luck with Classic and all.

my fault about the caps lock. I looked at the printers and there pretty good. I just found out tho that it has to be no more that 200.00 sorry about the confusion but i got this last minute. thanks again:)

Do you have "Target" stores up there in New England? They've got a Lexmark Z73 or Z72 or something like that -- it's a copier, scanner, fax and printer all-in-one. It's on the cheaper side -- I think it's about $170. If you don't have Target stores up there, I'm sure a local computer store or Wal-Mart or Sam's Club may be able to help you out.... I do believe that the Lexmark works with OS 8/9 and OS X, if I'm not mistaken...

LOL i am from queens new york not new england and there are plenty of stores but the lexmark z73 i know is not mac compliante. dont know why u thought i was from new england but any way if u can send a link were i can see maybe to order online thanks again (hey no caps lock im catchin on)

Once you have decided on a model, go to http://www.pricewatch.com and shop for price. I started going there for the absolute dirt-cheapest prices on RAM. They have all sort of computer stuff and consumer electronics. I never buy anything without first visiting there to check out prices.

Well, New England-AREAish... whatever! Hehe... sorry...

Are you SURE the Z73 isn't mac-compatible? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong model, but I know one of their copier/scanner/fax/printer models is mac-compatible...

Nevermind... I checked the website and you're right -- they don't offer ANY culti-function copy/scan/print hardware for mac. I was thinking they might have a driver download, but I came up with nil.

Just ignore me. Hehe... you're right, Captain -- just a good ol' Texas boy... ;) We don't know nuthin' 'bout no northern exposure or nuthin'... but then again last time I visited New York I got some interesting questions about Texas: "Do you ride a horse to work?" "Do you know what tennis shoes are?" "Do you roll your own cigarettes?" "Do you live on a ranch?" Heh.... :p

If you're in Queen, swing down to J&R. Lots of stuff to check out, plus since the retail store was closed for so long since Sept. 11 (they are RIGHT there), I bet you can make a good deal with them. Just tell them that you will buy it "right now" and they will lower the price. :)

i would prefer to buy it online or at a store im used to going like compusa or bestbuy not to familiar with j&r. but if u cant find any printers yet than thanks for all yall help. love this web site

J&R is awesome. I have been dealing with them for many years. The store is HUGE. And they will also always beat any prices.

I second that, J&R is a fantastic store. Very reliable and reputable, I have purchased many things from them.

EricBrian,

I also live in Queens, so maybe these store suggestions will help.

(1) The nearest store to me with any geek goods is the Wiz, which is two blocks away. Not necessarily the best prices, but they do sell a few Macs and the service has been friendly every time I've needed to talk to someone. I had been searching for a particular Compact Flash reader for ages before discovering they had it. And they have no restocking fee. I returned a cordless phone and they refunded my money cheerfully. Actually I need a printer right now (just a regular one), so I might see what they have at the Wiz just because it's convenient.

(2) It's an easy subway ride to the CompUSA at 57th St. and 8th Ave. I prefer not to shop at CompUSA, though. My experience has been that they treat the Mac market pretty shoddily. Plus it bugs me that they require a bag check and they have a restocking fee for returned goods. Overall, I find the place a turnoff but sometimes a necessary evil.

(3) I agree with those who endorsed J&R Computer World. They just remodeled and their Mac section is quite large and nicely done. The salesmen are accessible and they will approach you, but they aren't pushy in my experience. If you don't feel like taking the subway that far downtown, you can order online from www.jandr.com.

(4) One little place I've discovered but haven't checked out yet is called Digital Society. I walked by their storefront last night and their sign says they are Apple specialists. They are at 60 East 10th St. (just west of Broadway), 212-777-3093. I just found their Web site after a bit of tricky Googling: www.digsoc.com. I may go there today. I am hoping they turn out to be cool.

i would love to go to j and r and see what they got but i dont know how to get there. i take the train because i dont have a car. the train station stop i am at is 179st(which is the last stop). if you know how to get to j and r by train please tell me thanks again.

Wow, you're way out there. I live in Astoria, which is much closer. If you want to make the trip, you can find directions at:

http://www.jandr.com/Templates/Information/directions.tem

Note that the City Hall station is (I believe) closed due to Sept. 11, but the other options are just as good.

If you see something you like at J&R and don't want to schlep it back on the subway, I notice their Web site says they now have free standard shipping to the NYC area. (I'm not a shill for J&R, honest, just trying to be helpful. ;))

BTW (and I am drifting farther off-topic by the minute), you can get a beautiful PDF version of the NY subway map at:

http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm

It's fun to scroll and zoom and look at the purdy colors and the smoothly scaling text and graphics.

As an FYI, I picked up a subway map last week, and it doesn't show as closed
(I find the PDF actually goes out of date faster than the hand outs. :( )

The City Hall N/R station is indeed open. J&R is right near it. Get out there, walk downtown and it's on your left a few blocks down. Can't miss it. They have almost the whole block. And true about the free shipping in the NY area for less than 100 pounds. They started this I think when the store was closed due to the WTC. Good move I think.
