I have a macpro work sta. early 2008 w/ an ati radeon hd 2600 xt [ two dual-link DVI ports]. Can anyone tell me if it will be totally operational w/ snow leopard which I plan on installing next week. The info I've been reading is that I may have to upgrade to NVIDIA Geforce 880 gt or a quadro fx 5600.
Thanks

Any Mac computer with an Intel processor will run Snow Leopard perfectly.

These are the complete and total requirements to run Snow Leopard:

- Mac computer with an Intel processor
- 1GB of memory
- 5GB of available disk space
- DVD drive for installation

Do you meet those four requirements? If so, then Snow Leopard will run in full-blown, Snowy, Leopardy, zippy, yummy glory.

I would really like to know whom or what told you that you needed to replace a perfectly good video card in order to run Snow Leopard. Can you please provide a link to wherever you read that?

I see... those are video card requirements to take advantage of OpenCL (and in some cases hardware-based decoding of h.264 streams).

That doesn't mean that your computer will not be able to run Snow Leopard -- it just means that whatever OpenCL commands cannot be handled in parallel via hardware will degrade nicely into being handled by the CPU (i.e., software).

EL-good info and thanks! It's going to be interesting to install and watch how it goes.
My Macpro work station will handle it all quite well I'm sure-
