First step would be to check you hard drive.
Boot to your installer disk.
Choose Disk Utility from the menus.
If you see your hard drive in that utility, select it, then click the Repair Disk button (different from Repair Disk Permissions.
If you don't see your hard drive in Disk Utility, your hard drive has likely failed.
