MacPro random start up problems

Hi

I've had the following boot up issues with my Mac Pro for more than 6 months now:

1. Not booting up or not booting correctly - blue screen of death.

2. Fans running at full speed on boot up.

3. Random, spontaneously restarting.

4. Display showing low res, pixellated image on start up until the resolution is changed in display prefs.

Eventually, I get the machine to boot up and all is well until I shut down and boot up again. Sometimes I go for weeks with no problems and then one or all of the above will occur for a few days, and then the problems disappear for a while.

I've tried re-installing the OS; new boot disc; rebuilding the directory; PRAM reset; SMC reset; fixing permissions; cleaning caches; tested hardware, RAM etc but still the issues persist.

I use the machine for video editing and have a Kona 3 card installed, along with 3x2TB HDs as a RAID 0.

The specs are: MacPro 8 core (late 2008); 16GB RAM, OSX 10.5.8.

Any ideas gratefully received. It's really driving me nuts! Thanks.

I would try a little while the video card or bad RAM (testing of course). Plus take a look at your Mac's logs in /Applications/Utilities/Console and see if any errors are being thrown up.
