Mail missing

Hi

I have just installed OS 10.5 (Leopard). The install seemed to have gone ok. BUT I've now noticed:

1. My mailbox home page doesn't open when I double click the mail icon
2. When I open a new mail viewer window it has all my mail folders but everything is empty.

I gather I need to get the new mailbox to pick up my stored e-mail from my HD??? How do I do this.

I'd appreciate any help.

There is an easy fix but you need to follow the steps in order to get the emails back.

1. Quit Mail.
2. Navigate to the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/ and find the files MessageRules.plist & MessageRules.plist.backup and move them to Trash.
3. Launch Mail and see if the messages are there.

I had the exact same problem, and the suggested advice worked like a dream.

However, before I even realized that I had a problem (e.g., noticed that all my emails in Mail were missing) which I know sounds dumb but I have been using Entourage and am considering going over to Mail.... Anyway, before I noticed that something was not right in Mail, I wrote a long message and hit send. The message disappeared but I can´t find it anywhere, and the recipient hasn´t received it. Any ideas where to recover the said mail message?
