Mail retains addresses in drop down listing

When I start typing an address in a new email I see other address options in the drop down listing that opens automatically. Some of them are addresses that don't appear in Applications--Address Book, and so I don't have a clue as to how to delete these unwanted ones.

If anyone can tell me how to solve this, I'll be forever grateful!

This is so easy you will kick your self.

1. Open Mail.
2. Go to Mail's pull down the item "Window" (from the top menu).
3. Select "Previous Receipts".
4. Delete want you want.

Well, I wondered what that meant in the past, but was afraid to click on it....who knows, I might have self destructed, lol.
