Mail Trash Going To Sent Mail Folder

Friend has brand new Macbook Air OS 10.10.3. Set up with Time Warner for internet and mail. When she deletes a message in Apple Mail it goes to the sent mail folder instead of the trash folder. Anyone have a fix?

Got no reply from Apple Forum.
 
There's different methods that result in a "delete". One would be clicking the delete icon in the Mail menubar. Another would be to simply press the keyboard Delete key, which should move a selected message to Mail's trash.
Does your friend use one of those? (try the other as a test)
What happens when a message in the Sent folder is deleted?
 
She pressed the delete key. This should be ok as I tried it on my computer the mail went to the trash folder. Pressing the delete icon is what I do on my computer and that also works fine.
 
must be some weird glitch in Mail.
But, what does happen when she presses the delete key when a message in the Sent folder is selected?
